Hang Li Po's Well likewise referred to as King's Well, located at the foot of Bukit Cina, beside Sam Po Kong Temple, was installed 1459 by the followers of Princess Hang Li Po as the main source of water system in the town.
Princess Hang Li Poh was hitched to the reigning Sultan Mansor Shah in mid-15th century for the polite ties in between China and Malacca. The well was then built under the royal command of Sultan Mansur Shah for Princess Hang Li Poh at the foot of Bukit Cina - a Chinese settlement offered by the Sultan to the Princess as a gift.
It was said that after Melaka was dominated by the Portuguese, the Javanese poisoned the water in the well and numerous Portuguese soldiers perished after drinking water out of the well. In 1677, throughout the Dutch guideline, the Dutch enclosed the well within stout walls to keep their rights to the well.
According to the Malay Annals (Sejarah Melayu), the Sultan dispatched Tun Perpatih Putih as his envoy to Ming China. He carried a letter to the Emperor in which it was pointed out that Hang Liu was sent out to Malacca to be the bride-to-be of the Sultan. Hang Li Po came to Malacca in addition to 500 (sons of ministers) and other female assistants, numerous assistants later wedded authorities serving Sultan Mansur Shah as Hang Li Po hitched the Sultan after she accepted conversion to Islam. After their marriage, the sultan constructed a palace for Hang Li Po and her attendants were provided a long-lasting house at Chinese Hill.
Today it is developed into a wanting well. It is believed that whoever throws coins into the well or consume its water will return to Melaka time and once again.
